Lithium and Nickel Metal Hydride Battery Transport

Lithium batteries in transport are remain a hot topic. Incidents continue to drive regulatory change, yet lack of understanding in the requirements is a contributing factor to incidents. Revamped for 2012, this course will address the transport of lithium batteries by all modes, providing up-to-date regulations and interpretations. 49 CFR, IATA, UN Model, IMDG, and ADR will be addressed. We will cover classification, packing, marking, labeling, documentation, and related exceptions. The changes to Nickel Metal Hydride battery transport by vessel (IMDG Code, 35th Amendment) will also be discussed. The course includes opportunities for discussion and an exam.

GHS - The Future is Now

The Global Harmonized System of Marking of Chemicals (GHS) has been on the horizon for years. Now OSHA is finally adopting many of the GHS requirements into 29 CFR. The course provides an overview of the GHS including classification, marking, and documentation. We will also cover the particulars of GHS which OSHA has adopted, any transitions to consider, how these changes affect MSDS authoring and maintenance, and of course how the OSHA Final Rule impacts industry.

Packaging Selection & Testing

So you’ve got your material classified and identified. Now what? Packaging is what protects transportation workers and the public from the hazards contained within. But packaging only works if you use it correctly. This course will review the philosophy of packaging including design, specifications, testing, packing, and closure. We will review changes to the regulations over the last few years addressing packaging. Maintenance of closure instructions is now mandatory under 49 CFR. Best practices to become or remain compliant will be discussed.

This course explores the regulatory relief available in the Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods Transportation Regulations. ADR European Road Regulations

This function specific course is entitled “ADR European Road Regulations” and is designed for those requiring knowledge of the regulations for the transportation of dangerous goods by road throughout Europe. The training will cover the most fundamental and important aspects of the European regulations, including exemptions and limited quantities, multilateral agreements, classification, use of Table A & B in Part 3, packing instructions, mixed packing, marking, labeling, and documentation. Participants will be provided with an inside overview on the changes of the 2011 edition. Each person participating in the course may bring their copy of ADR 2011 Volume I & II or purchase a copy at a specially discounted price.

Advanced 49 CFR/Air Recurrent Training

The 49-Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Air Recurrent course refreshes the student with the application and changes in the regulations according to 49-CFR. 49-CFR requires hazmat employees receive recurrent training at least once every three years.
This course includes a comprehensive overview of; Civil penalties, terms and definitions, proper shipping names, identification numbers, hazard classes, packing groups, packaging, labeling, marking, certification paperwork, segregation requirements.
This course is designed for shippers, freight forwarders, third party logistics entities, carriers and other hazardous materials professionals.
The course is taught using a combination of lectures, visual aids, work sheets and question and answer sessions. The course includes opportunities for discussion, an exam and certificate of successful completion. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a training certificate that satisfies 49 CFR §172.704(d) and IATA DGR 1.5.5 for training record retention purposes.
This is a fast-paced course designed for experienced dangerous goods employees.
Prerequisite: In-depth 49 CFR and Air Training.
