This course provides students with a refresher in the knowledge to read and apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, as well as how to comply with new requirements in the 64th Edition. It will cover terms and definitions, proper shipping names, hazard classes, identification numbers, packing groups, state and operator variations, packaging, labeling, marking, and certification of shipping documents.

This Recurrent Training course will cover the major changes and revisions of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code, Amendment 41-22. This course is designed for shippers, freight forwarders, third-party logistics entities, carriers, and other hazardous materials / dangerous goods professionals preparing DG shipments for transport by sea.

Function-specific topics include enforcement, classification, use of the IMDG Code’s List of Dangerous Goods, packaging of dangerous goods, loading of cargo transport units, marking, labeling, placarding, documentation, stowage, and segregation.

The course is taught using a combination of lectures, visual aids, exercises, and question and answer opportunities. Upon successful completion of the course and after passing an exam, students will receive a training certificate.

The Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) and US Hazardous Materials Regulations of Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) are similar, but not identical; most variations, but not all of them, are dealt with by a reciprocal agreement that establishes procedures for cross-border shipments.

This training program will provide an overview of the TDGR regulations and identify areas where reciprocity does and does not apply. TDGR Training is mandatory for all personnel preparing shipments, shipping, or receiving hazardous materials/dangerous goods within, to, or from Canada. The course is taught using a combination of lectures, visual aids, exercises, and question and answer opportunities. Upon successful completion of the course and after passing an exam, students will receive a training certificate.

This function-specific course is designed for those requiring knowledge of the regulations for the transportation of dangerous goods by road throughout 54 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. The training will cover the most fundamental and important aspects of these regulations, including exemptions and limited quantities, classification, use of Tables A & B in Part 3, packing instructions, mixed packing, tank transport, marking, labeling, and documentation by following the changes in the 2023 edition.

Because web service ordering systems, warehouse management systems, and other output service levels vary amongst vendors, there is not just one way to do things.  This session eCommerce DG Shipping session is intended to provide an understanding of what considerations need to be taken into account as every process can be unique.

Some of the topics covered will include: 

First article inspection

• Is there any data imported to the warehouse from retailer?
• Is there room for the attribute to be accounted for within the 3PL Warehouse management system?
• If a change is made at the warehouse level, does the master data from the retailer wipe out the data if it doesn’t match? (Revert it back to what they had originally)
• Is the 3PL responsible for determining FAI?
• Understanding Combustible liquid vs. Flammable liquid
• How does the warehouse identify if this is a ‘new, never seen before item’?  Who is responsible for making the item active and available for sale?
• How do you prevent undeclared shipments? 

What is the customer’s business model?

• Excepted Lithium and LQ?
• Fully regulated? 
• What type of product do they sell?  Cosmetics? Technology? Cleaning products? Colognes?
• Where and Who are their customers? 
• Inside contiguous 48?

Publication 52 differences and requirements from 49 CFR

• Cannot mix two classes in same mail piece, even if limited quantities
• Maximum allowable quantities are much more restrictive than allowed in 49
• Lithium battery limitations much more restrictive than allowed in 49
• Combustible liquid not recognized.
• Cargo Air Only handling label not recognized.
• Return guidance to consumer mandatory for flammable liquids
• All liquids require 3-part packaging system
• Consignment label and hazard communication must appear on same surface.
• LQ are forbidden to all military installations domestic and international
• What triggers a packer to apply a label at a pack station?
• Is there more than 1 distribution center?  If 2 or more, do they share the item master or are they independent of each other?  The importance of 1 point of entry.
• Managing the shipping processes.  Utilizing fewer exceptions allows for smoother process management.   Remove ‘decision making’ from the shipping floor through automation and documenting the processes through a written Quality Management System is a must. 

Course Materials: No training materials are needed, however a current copy of the 49 CFR will be helpful (students may use the free online e-CFR).  This session will include knowledge checks along the way to reinforce learnings and participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end.
